1. Is it possible to search inside PDF or other formats?

Yes. Phrases and words inside the document in Adobe Acrobat PDF format will appear in search results. Search engine also supports file formats Adobe PostScript (ps) Lotus 1-2-3 (WK1, WK2, WK3, WK4, wk5, wki, wks, wku) Lotus WordPro (lwp) MacWrite (mw), Microsoft Office (xls, ppt, doc, wks, wps, wdb, wri, rtf) Shockwave Flash (swf) and Text (ans, txt).

2. Is it possible to find an exact phrase?

Yes. Write a phrase in double quotations marks. For instance write "monetary policy" and each search result will contain this exact phrase.

3. I want to search only for particular file types

If you want to search only for particular file types as PDF for instance, you can type "filetype:pdf" as part of your search query. Full details will then appear as follows. You search: "Monetary policy" filetype: pdf (which is PDF format).

4. I want to search only in one sub-page of www.nbs.sk

Instead of words "filetype:" write "site:" and the name of the sub-page. It may look like this: "Monetary policy" site: http://www.nbs.sk/en/press - in this case the search results will show all the materials containing the phrase "monetary policy" on the sub-page.

5. I want to find all grammatical forms of one word. For example, bank and banker

Enter the word into the search box and add a sign wildcard [*] after it. For example enter the word bank*. Search results will be all words like banker, bank, banknote, National Bank and others.

6. Search exactly as is (+)

Search Service ignores commonly used words, such as pronouns and conjunctions. By attaching "+" right before (not after) the word, you are telling the Search engine to match that word precisely as you typed it. To search for details of Economic and Monetary Union search phrase is economic +and monetary union.

7. Is there any difference between uppercase and lowercase letters?

No. It does not matter whether you write the National Bank of Slovakia or the national bank of slovakia. Search results will be the same.

8. Choose appropriate keywords

Are you looking for a commemorative coin of 17 November? Enter words: Euro 17th November commemorative coin and not words: euro coin in November.

9. Find exact phrase and hyperlink

Do you want to find the page with hyperlinks referring to the European Central Bank? Enter your search phrase: "Monetary policy" link:www.ecb.int. Search returns all pages that contain the phrase "monetary policy" and also the hyperlink on the European Central Bank.

10. Operators OR, AND and NOT

If you want to specifically allow either one of several words, you can use the OR operator. For example [monetary OR policy] will give you one of these words. The symbol can be substituted with operators AND or NOT. The operator AND is default, so its not needed. The operator NOT excluds the word from your search results.
