Slovak households’ financial wealth comprises mainly currency and deposits

The financial wealth of euro area households is the topic of the latest edition of Insights into euro area statistics, published on the website of the European Central Bank (ECB).

In the euro area, households' net financial wealth per capita continues to grow, reaching almost €55 thousand at the end of the second quarter of 2020. As for households in Slovakia, their financial wealth is increasing slightly, but they remain the poorest in the euro area with net wealth per capita of less than €7 thousand.

Looking at the breakdown of their financial assets, Slovak households prefer less risky investments, holding approximately 60% of their financial assets in the form of currency and deposits. The next most significant asset classes are insurance, pension and standardised guarantee schemes (20%), investment fund shares/units (7%) and debt securities (4%).
