Statement from the 16th meeting of the Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska

The Bank Board of Národná banka Slovenska today (29 September) held its 16th meeting of 2015, which was chaired by Jozef Makúch, the NBS Governor.

The Bank Board approved the Financial Market Situation and Trend Report – H1 2015.

The Bank Board took note of NBS’s September 2015 Monthly Bulletin, September 2015 Report on the International Economy and September 2015 Report on the Slovak Economy, each of which will be published on the NBS website.

The Bank Board took note of the Medium-Term Forecast (MTF-2015Q3) and approved the Opinion on the MTF-2015Q3. Both texts were subsequently presented at a press conference and will be published on the NBS website.

The Bank Board discussed and approved a draft Decision of Národná banka Slovenska amending Decision No 7/2012 of Národná banka Slovenska of 16 October 2012 on rules of the SIPS payment system.

The Decision expands the functionality of the SIPS payment system by allowing the execution of cross-border SEPA business-to-business direct debits, used for the mutual settlement of assets and liabilities between companies. The Decision also sets fees for the use of this service.

The Decision will enter into force on 1 January 2016.

The Bank Board approved the announcement of the issuance of a €100 gold collector coin featuring World Natural Heritage – Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians.

The euro collector coin, weighing 9.5 g and measuring 26 mm in diameter, was designed by Mária Poldaufová and has been produced by the Kremnica Mint from an alloy containing 90% gold, 75% silver and 25% copper. The coin is due to go on sale in December 2015.

The Bank Board approved the announcement of the issuance of a €2 commemorative coin featuring Slovakia’s first presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Due to be issued in March 2016, the commemorative coin will have the same technical parameters as normal €2 coins and will be legal tender in Slovakia and the rest of the euro area. Its national side was designed by Vladimír Pavlica.

The coin will be produced by the Kremnica Mint with a total issuing volume of one million coins.

The Bank Board approved the inclusion in the Issue Plan of Slovak Commemorative and Collector Coins for 2016 of a €10 silver collector coin featuring Slovakia’s first presidency of the Council of the European Union. The coin is due to be issued in June 2016.
