Current information on withdrawal of the Slovak koruna from circulation as at 30 June 2009

Národná banka Slovenska informs that the volume of cash withdrawn from circulation represents SKK 149.6 billions as at 30 June 2009 i.e. 96.4% of the value in circulation as at 31 December 2007 (standard circulation). More than SKK 77 billions were withdrawn from circulation as at the end of 2008 and further SKK 71.9 billions In the first half of 2009.
- Almost 110 millions pieces of bankotes and more than 223 millions pieces of coins in circulation were received and exchanged from the beginning of the year.
- The amount of the Slovak currency received and exchanged was considerably lower in the course of the last months. While in January more than 90 million pieces of banknotes and 137.4 million pieces of coins in circulation were received by the offices of the NBS and by other banks (to be exchanged to euro), in June there was only more than 604 thousands of pieces of banknotes and 3.5 millions pieces coins in circulation.
- The number of exchanges of the Slovak koruna to the euro was highest at the NBS in January ( 4787), in February it decreased by more than ahalf to 2362, then it decreased in aslower growth rate, in May it was 1897 and in June it slightly increased to 1991.
- More than 22 million pieces of banknotes remained still in circulation ( most of which were in denomination of SKK 20 and SKK 100 and 405.4 million pieces of coins (most of which in denomination of 50 haliers and 1 halier).
- More than 230 tons of banknotes and more than 1564 tons of coins were destructed.
- At the present time there is more than EUR 3.6 billions in circulation which is more than 109 billions in countervalue to SKK which represents more than 40.5% higher value when compared with the value of the SKK in circulation as at 31 December 2008. More than 60 million pieces of euro banknotes and 238.6 million pieces of euro coins are in circulation. In addition, banknotes and coins issued in other countries of the euro area can be in circulation.
