Exchange of Slovak banknotes and Slovak coins

Národná banka Slovenska exchanges Slovak banknotes and Slovak coins in compliance with:

  •          Articles 3, 4 and 6 of Act No. 659/2007 Coll. on the Introduction of the Euro Currency in the Slovak Republic and on amendments to certain Acts,
  •          Articles 2 to 5 of Decree of Národná banka Slovenska No. 465/2001 Coll. stipulating a detailed procedure for receipt  and handling of legal tender, and details on the replacement of incomplete banknotes or otherwise damaged banknotes and coins, as amended by Decree of Národná banka Slovenska No. 607/2008 Coll.,
  •          Act No. 297/2008 Coll. On protection against Legalization of Proceeds from Criminal Activity and on Protection against Financing of Terrorism, and on amendments and supplements to certain Acts.

General Information

Národná banka Slovenska exchanges Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins free of charge calculated in exchange rate: 1 euro = 30,1260 Sk.

Exchange periods:

  • Slovak coins: Národná banka Slovenska does not exchange Slovak circulated coins. Their exchange finished on 2. January 2014 in compliance with Article 3 paragraph 8 of Act No. 659/2007 Coll.
  • Slovak banknotes: no time limit applies
  • Commemorative Slovak coins: no time limit applies

The exchange is performed personally or by post.

The exchange of Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins personally

The exchange personally is performed at the cash desks at its Headquarters and local offices, during the hours of opening to the public.

The submitter presents for exchange Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins sorts by the individual denominations, no limit in pieces applies.

When exchanging Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins, the submitter is not entitled to be provided with any collector euro coins, commemorative euro coins or euro banknotes or euro coins of a specific design, type or series, including euro coins with a specific national side.

The submitter - natural person submits:

-          valid proof of  identity card with photo, for example (identification card, passport, residence permit),

-          in case when natural person is deputized by other natural person, natural person submits by notary/ by register office verified authorization with identification data of deputized person.

The submitter natural person - entrepreneur submits:

-          valid proof of identity card with photo , for example (identification card, passport, residence permit),

-          documents from official register or other official evidence in which is natural person - entrepreneur recorded,

-          in case when natural person - entrepreneur is deputized by other natural person, natural person submits identification data as natural person and by notary / by register office verified authorization of deputized person.

The submitter - legal entity submits:

-          valid proof of identity card with photo, for example (identification card, passport, residence permit),

-          documents from official register or other official evidence in which is legal entity recorded,

-          in case when legal entity is deputized by other natural person, natural person submits documents as natural person and by notary/ by register office verified authorization of deputized person.

Exchange of Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins by post

Exchange by post is realized by sending Slovak banknotes and Commemorative Slovak Coins to address of Headquarters.

The submitter requires to send  financial resources on the account in a bank on the territory of Slovakia, the submitter sends:

  • Slovak banknotes, Commemorative Slovak Coins,
  • completed the relevant Money Exchange Coupon (natural person, entrepreneur, legal entity), where he listed the name of bank, or code of bank and the bank account number,
  • submitter´s data verified from official register (first name, surname, date of birth, type and number of ID card, valid..., address, nationality), in case of natural person, entrepreneur or legal entity also the documentation from register office and/or different registration evidence where the natural person - entrepreneur or legal entity is recorded, 
  • written confirmation (original) from the bank that such a client holds an account in this bank, or the statement of account, not older than 3 months with name and address of client for which the financial resources shall be sent.

 

 The submitter requires to send financial resources on the account in a bank out of the territory of Slovakia, the submitter sends:

  • Slovak banknotes, Commemorative Slovak Coins,
  • completed the relevant Money Exchange Coupon (natural person, entrepreneur, legal entity),
  • submitter´s data verified from official register (first name, surname, date of birth, type and number of ID card, valid..., address, nationality), in case of natural person, entrepreneur or legal entity also the documentation from register office and/or different registration evidence where the natural person - entrepreneur or legal entity is recorded, 
  • completed form "Mandatory data for reimbursement to foreign countries",
  • written confirmation (original) from the bank that such a client holds an account in this bank, or the statement of account, not older than 3 months with name and address of client for which the financial resources shall be sent.

 

Replacement for incomplete Slovak banknotes and otherwise damaged Slovak banknotes

is performed by means of exchanging them for undamaged euro banknotes and euro coins within the exchange periods specified in general information.

Incomplete Slovak banknotes are to be replaced if an identifiable part of the banknote is submitted, provided that its total compact surface exceeds one half of the original surface of the banknote.

 

No replacement for Slovak banknotes is to be provided:

  • where they are suspected of having been counterfeited or altered,
  • where their damage constitutes a criminal offence,
  • where they originate within a criminal offence,
  • where they have been destroyed or lost,
  • where their damage causes them to be unidentifiable,
  • for the banknotes that have been damaged for the purpose of their impairment (distinctly marked by the text "SPECIMEN" or "VZOR", or the banknotes damaged by five holes punctured symmetrically),
  • for incomplete the banknotes whose total compact surface does not exceed one half of the original surface of the banknote.

Any Slovak banknotes damaged in this manner are to be collected from the submitter without any compensation, against a confirmation of collection.

Natural persons and legal entities may, in justifiable cases, file a request in writing to Národná banka Slovenska to be provided with a replacement for Slovak banknotes that are not eligible for replacement; in such a request, the submitter send a detailed description of how the damage occurred and all documents as submitter request for sending money to account.
