Exchange of Slovak banknotes and Slovak coins

I. Legislation

Národná banka Slovenska exchanges Slovak banknotes and Slovak coins in compliance with:

  • Articles 3, 4 and 6 of Act No. 659/2007 Coll. on the Introduction of the Euro Currency in the Slovak Republic and on amendments to certain Acts,
  • Articles 2 to 5 of Decree of Národná banka Slovenska No. 465/2001 Coll. stipulating a detailed procedure for receipt  and handling of legal tender, and details on the replacement of incomplete banknotes or otherwise damaged banknotes and coins, as amended by Decree of Národná banka Slovenska No. 607/2008 Coll.,
  • Act No. 297/2008 Coll. On protection against Legalization of Proceeds from Criminal Activity and on Protection against Financing of Terrorism, and on amendments and supplements to certain Acts.

 

II. General Information

Národná banka Slovenska exchanges Slovak banknotes and  Slovak Commemorative Coins free of charge calculated in exchange rate: 1 euro = 30,1260 Sk.

Exchange periods:

The exchange of money resources is performed:

personally by submitting cash at the cash desks  at its Headquarters and local offices, during the hours of opening to the public

or

by post (it is recommended to send it to address of Headquarters as insured letter, if submitter cannot perform exchange personally. NBS will return the appropriate equivalent of financial resources by post (practicable only in Slovakia) or on the bank´s account listed by client.

When exchanging Slovak banknotes and Slovak commemorative coins, the submitter is not entitled to be provided with any collector euro coins, commemorative euro coins or euro banknotes or euro coins of a specific design, type or series, including euro coins with a specific national side.

The submitter presents for exchange Slovak banknotes and Slovak commemorative coins sorts by the individual denominations, no limit in pieces applies.

 

III. Conditions and documents necessary for Exchange:

  • Exchange personally by submitting cash at the cash desks:

-  Slovak banknotes or Slovak commemorative coins,

-  Originals or officially verified copies of the identification documentation.

  • The Exchange by post (it is recommended to send it to address of Headquarters as insured letter:

- Slovak banknotes or Slovak commemorative coins,

- Officially verified copies of the identification documentation,

- completed the relevant Money Exchange Coupon (natural person, entrepreneur, legal entity), where he indicates the name of bank, or BIC and the account number in the form of IBAN,

- written confirmation (original) from the bank that such a client holds an account in this bank, or the bank statement not older than 3 months with name and address of client whom the financial resources shall be sent,

- the name of bank, or BIC and the account number  in the  form of IBAN in case the submitter requires to send relevant equivalent to a bank account in the territory of Slovakia,

- completed "Mandatory data for reimbursement to foreign countries" in case  submitter requires to send equivalent to a bank account out of the territory of Slovakia.
